KGL received the Community Energy Engagement Award at the 2025 Energy Forum for Africa Conference!
This award belongs not just to us, but to the communities of Naluama and Nkomeshya Chiefdoms, who welcomed us and gave us the land to build our power plant. It’s a reflection of what can be achieved when energy development and community development go hand in hand.
In the past two years, we’ve:
Drilled 18 boreholes to provide clean water
Handed over Chasunta Secondary School, a fully equipped 500-capacity boarding school to the Government
Electrified Kasengo Primary School and teachers’ houses in Naluama; for the first time in over 90 years!
Built a 1x3 classrom block and renovated classroom blocks, staff houses, and learning spaces!
KGL is now finalizing more projects at Chipapa Secondary School in Nkomeshya, including dormitories, a laboratory, a school sick bay, a dining hall, and even a library! We are also constructing 2 earth dams and a Clinic in Naluama Chiefdom.
To make sure this work continues for generations to come, we even incorporated a special company called KGL Community Development Company Limited (KGLCDC), dedicated only to CSR activities. Through KGLCDC, part of the net profits from our 12MW plant will go back to the communities every single year, in perpetuity.
And the journey is only beginning, with more projects in the pipeline!!!!
This award reminds us of one thing: our true power lies in uplifting our people. Together, we are lighting the way to a brighter and more sustainable future.
